Perineal Preservation and Repair
This didactic and skills workshop brings recommendations for evidence-based practice to the table so that midwives can improve their understanding and build on their core midwifery skills. ACNM specialty credit is available (ACNM Program # 2018/038 valid through 3/19/2020). The workshop's focus is on applying current evidence to enhance the midwife’s knowledge and skills to reflect current best practices. Whether it’s prevention or repair of a complex laceration, learning new information about episiotomy, or preserving pelvic floor integrity, midwives can improve their knowledge and ability to perform these aspects of care more efficiently, effectively, and with greater confidence. The perineal preservation and repair workshop includes review of relevant anatomy and the effects of birth on the pelvic floor, recommendations for techniques to maintain pelvic floor integrity, assessment of the pelvic floor after birth, comparison of techniques for repair, and mentored simulation of specific closures using foam and fabric, and animal tissue models. * The workshop Surgical Knot-Tying and Suturing is a prerequisite for this workshop. Each workshop must be registered for separately. There are 2 discounted Internship tickets available for each workshop for those who are interested in helping with classroom set up, models and materials, managment of CE certificates and evaluations during the workshop, refreshments and clean up. The Intern role requires making a commitment and staying earlier and later to accomplish these tasks. 10% of all ticket sales goes to supporting midwifery through advocacy and our professional associations.
