Surgical Knot-Tying and Suturing for Midwives
This didactic and skills workshop taught by Nell Tharpe MS CNM FACNM brings recommendations for evidence-based practice to the table so that midwives can improve their understanding of wound closure and build on their core suturing skills and perform these aspects of care more efficiently, effectively, and with greater confidence. This workshop is for those who have core suturing and knot-tying skills. ACNM specialty credit is available (ACNM Program # 2018/038 valid through 3/19/2020). The surgical knot-tying and suturing workshop includes key information about suture materials, surgical knots, and suturing techniques. Mentored simulation using suture with foam and fabric models is used to assess and refine each participant’s understanding of technical skills during knot-tying, selection of suture material, handling of suturing instruments, and application of suturing techniques. *This workshop is a Prerequisite for the following workshops The Art of Perineal Preservation and Repair The Midwife as Surgical First Assistant Each Workshop must be registered for separately. There are 2 discounted Internship tickets available for each workshop for those who are interested in helping with classroom set up, models and materials, managment of CE certificates and evaluations during the workshop, refreshments and clean up. The Intern role requires making a commitment and staying earlier and later to accomplish these tasks. 10% of all ticket sales goes to supporting midwifery through advocacy and our professional associations.
