Toute de Suite: Bach and the French (Tuesday performance in Bath, ME)

NOTE - This concert is also being performed on Wednesday, August 15th, in the intimate Linden Tree Meeting House in Phippsburg, ME (see our separate link for this performance: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3462422) Under the artistic direction of George Bozarth, KEMF is bringing together musicians of national and international renown from San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and Bath to perform the music of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and other classical masters on historic instruments Baroque and Classical clarinets, Baroque violin and violoncello, Flemish harpsichord, and Viennese fortepiano. Among J. S. Bach's most beloved masterpieces are his sets of Suites and Partitas for solo violin and solo violoncello, a sampling of which will animate this concert. To explore Bach's roots well travel to France with a harpsichord suite by the Francophile Froberger and a Suite for Chalumeau by Boismortier. Displaying their virtuosity will be Thomas Carroll, chalumeau, Elizabeth Blumenstock, 1660 Guarneri violin, Sarah Freiberg, 1784 Merlin violoncello, and Linda Skernick, Franco-Flemish harpsichord. Variatio - Quinta Variatio - Sesta Variatio (Crommatica) - Saraband 1 - Saraband 2 - Courant sopra la Mayrin Suite No. 1 in G major for Solo Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) Violoncello, BWV 1007 Prélude - Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - Menuet I and II - Gigue Suite in G minor for Solo Chalumeau Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) Allemande - Courante - Sarabande - Gavotte Partita No. 2 for Solo Violin in D minor, BWV 1004 Johann Sebastian Bach Allemanda - Corrente - Sarabanda - Giga - Chaconne THE MUSICIANS Internationally acclaimed as a Baroque violinist of expressive eloquence and technical sparkle, ELIZABETH BLUMENSTOCK is a long-time concertmaster, soloist, and leader with the San Francisco Bay Areas Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and American Bach Soloists, and concertmaster of the International Handel Festival in Göttingen, Germany. In Southern California, she is Music Director of the Corona del Mar Baroque Music Festival. Elizabeth's love of chamber music has involved her in several accomplished and interesting smaller ensembles, including Musica Pacifica, Galax Quartet, Ensemble Mirable, Live Oak Baroque, the Arcadian Academy, and Trio Galanterie. An enthusiastic teacher, she is on the faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the American Bach Soloists summer Festival and Academy, and the International Baroque Institute at the Longy School of Music. He holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana University, and The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where his major teacher on early clarinets and chalumeaux was Eric Hoeprich. Internationally, Thomas has performed under such directors as Christophe Coin, Richard Egarr, Philippe Herreweghe, and Jos van Immerseel, and has played at numerous festivals as an orchestral and chamber musician, including Oude Muziek Utrecht, Muziekzomer Gelderland, Young Euro Classic, Festival de Saintes, and Musica Antiqua Brugge, in venues ranging from the Konzerthaus in Berlin to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has been featured to critical acclaim as a concerto soloist with Mercury: The Orchestra Redefined, Lyra Baroque, Ensemble ad Libitum, and Grand Harmonie.
